Game of Thrones Pilot Decision Scheduled for March

In March this year HBO are to make the decision on whether to green light the Game of Thrones series. The pilot episode is in post production at the moment. The series is based on George RR Martins 'A song of Ice and Fire' Novels, and would run to 12 episodes each for the 7 proposed books in the series.

The date has come from a numerous sources including David Weiss the producer and George RR Martin the writer of the original series of books and an executive producer on the TV show. This wait is longer than many fans has hoped for as HBO has picked up a number of pilots up very quickly in recent history.

However the cast assembled for the production is more than impressive with the five biggest names to date being Sean Bean, Lena Headey, Mark Addy , Jason Momoa and Peter Dinklage.

Added to these are a number of established English stage and character actors, and a number of new, exciting and upcoming English actors and newcomers. Together they make probably the best ensemble fantasy acting cast since Peter Jackson brought together the cast for the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

The series has been created up by David Weiss and David Benioff (Troy, Kite Runner and Wolverine )with continued input from George RR Martin, who as well as being the author of the original novels has a history in writing for TV and film going back to the 80's.

Filming for the pilot episode took place on location at Doune Castle in Scotland (used much in Monty Pythons Quest for the Holy Grail.), the Morocco based Jerusalem set of Kingdom of Heaven, and in Belfast at the Paint Hall and on location. It took place 4 weeks all told and was completed

Through December and one imagines into the new year the pilot is in post production with Modern VideoFilm who are handling the post-production requirements. The effects and CGI necessary for the pilot are known to include a CGI wheelhouse (for Cersei's travelling party), digital extensions on the real castle locations, the scenes and panoramas viewed from set windows and possible crowd extension work. - 30302

In this movie they make an attempt to a grim social subject and turn it in to a social reality by examining closely the human behaviour in various situations. The film's end is more than unusual and proves to be quite reflective. This film sets out to investigate the behaviour of a lost soul. The film received mixed reactions when it was screened at Cannes but what mattered was that people were talking about it regardless of the reactions.

The main lead, Lorna, (Arta Dobroshi) is an immigrant from Albania. She relocated to a small, Belgium town, Liege to accomplish her dream of living independently and owning a sandwich shop, with her boyfriend. She has a distorted sense of morality and does not hesitate to enters in to a marriage of convenience with Claudy, a Belgium junky (Jeremie Renier) by paying him to acquire herself a Belgium passport. Claudy is trying to quit drugs but is greedy for money. He is aware that when Lorna will pay him to get a divorce.

His daily needs keep increasing. Lorna is desperate, lonely and trying desperately to hang on to her dreams. She meets Fabio (Fabrizio Rongione), a Russian gangster who tells Lorna that once she gets her Belgium passport it is best to do away with Claudy by making it look like a drug overdose case. He then suggests that she get married to him so that he too could get a Belgium passport. Lorna only wants to purchase a snack bar to run with her boyfriend Sokol (Alban Ukaj) and so agrees to play along.

Lorna has other plans, she thinks that she will be able to divorce Claudy if she speeds up the proceedings of the divorce, marry the Russian gangster, earn her money and then buy her snack bar without getting Claudy killed. Claudy is aware of Lorna's plan of getting her Belgium passport and then wanting to divorce him but is unaware of her mob connections and agreement.

Lorna continues to play along from day to day with situations until a day when things make herv stop and think twice because of a certain series of events that unexpectedly take place. She stops to re-examine her path. The flame of humanity is lit in her. This drives her in to seeking comfort from a strange doctor and a nurse where she reveals to them how she inflicts wounds on herself to prove that her husband is physically abusing her so that the divorce is processed quickly.

Fashion Victim is a comedy film which is the debut vehicle of German director Ingo Rasper. It has already bagged many prizes like the Berlin and Beyond Festival's first-feature prize and the audience prize at the Max Ophuls festival. The plot has everthing - status obsessed middle aged family, their ups and downs and the gay romantic angle of their son.

Wolfgang Zenker (Edgar Selge) is a very self-centered resident of a provincial German community. He has a knack of picking up tickets for over speeding. He has a devoted wife in Erika (Franziska Walser) and a teenage son Karsten (Florian Bartholomai). Wolfgang earns by hawking dowdy clothes for woman. The first sign of hardship is noticed when his garment sales are overtaken by youthful and cheap clothes that are promoted by a new salesman called Steven (Roman Knizka). Needless to mention Wolfgang finds this hard to digest.

His son Karsten (Florian Batholomai) is all set to join a Spanish language summer school. His father Wolfgang is driving him to the airport when he is again pulled up for crossing the speed limit. Due to his repeated offences, he receives an immediate ban on driving. On his father's insistence, Karsten is forced to stay at home and the sub plot takes shape from here.

Since he was now banned from driving, he asks his son to do the driving as he runs from shop to shop in despair. His fears are found to be true - almost all the shops have accepted the latest clothing from Steven and there is hardly any place for him to sell his stuff. The film moves into a sub plot when Karsten was sent to the run an errand to the nearby dry cleaners and he had a chance meeting with Steven. A romantic liaison developed between the two. Karsten had no idea that Steven was his dad's nemesis. When he came to know about it he was in a dilemma. He cannot reveal his alternate sexuality neither can he make public his relationship with Steven. His mother Erika, meanwhile, is thinking of divorce while Wolfgang himself shows signs of despair.

The film does not have a tragic ending as expected. There is a hint of reconciliation at the end. Everybody essay his role to perfection. This is the hallmark of a good film and Fashion Victim movie is one such example. Edgar gives a stellar performance as a desperate salesman who is experiencing change of fortunes in a fashion conscious society. Walser as his wife is very convincing. Florian does justice to his role.

Fashion Victims movie has been appreciated all over and already in the reckoning for a few more awards. But this is not the usual run of the mill comedy but a very dark comedy. You cannot miss the despair and despondency of Erika, the emotional outbursts of Wolfgang and the personal turmoil that Karsten goes through. The film has been shot in perfect locations with some groundbreaking camerawork which makes the fim visually appealing.

Steve Carell plays Andy Stitzer, a nerdy guy who takes innocent pleasure in his comic book and action figures collection. A stockroom employee at an electronics store, Stitzer is 40 years old and spends his free time sitting with his old neighbors and watching Survivor. When his colleagues need an extra person to enjoy their regular poker night, they reluctantly decide to ask Andy who surprises them with his prowess at the game - a talent he develops by playing online poker.

Towards the end of the game, Andy's colleague find out that he's never ever slept with a woman in all his years. There begins their mission to find him a match that will introduce him to the pleasures of the flesh. Several wacky situations ensue that keep you rolling with laughter as his colleagues try their best to hook Andy up with a woman. Andy willingly allows them to a take a lead in the matter initially but soon begins to take matters into his own hands.

Enter Trish Piedmont (Catherine Keener), the mother of three kids and even a grandmom at age 40, who agrees to go on a date with Andy. All of Andy colleagues are elated at what they think is about to happen at last, but events change course again when Andy agrees to Trish's suggestion of waiting it out until their 20th date before engaging in sex.

What happens on the 20th date? Does Andy manage to mention to Trish he's a virgin? Do things go well in bed for them? Watch the movie to find out and you won't be disappointed. The twists and turns in the plot keep you wondering and guessing while you enjoy the chain of events that ensue.

Mulan is bunglesome young girl who defends her homeland, China by cross dressing. The story is that Huns have attacked China and one member of the Chinese family must go to war to fight for his motherland. Mulan's father decides to go to war to protect his family's respect. But he is too old and death is imminent if he takes part in the battle. Sensing this Mulan, his daughter, cuts off her hair and sneaks out in the middle of the night to join the Chinese army. In order to protect his little daughter, her father prays to the ancestors to protect her in the journey and to provide her with some luck. The ancestors sent Mushu, a small dragon for her protection in the war.

When the war started Mulans' inexperience comes to the forefront but she continues to fight valiantly in order to win the trust of her fellow soldiers. There is a big showdown with the head Hun in the end but you need to watch the film to know the outcome of his hard battle.

Eddie Murphy as the voice of Mushu is definitely the show stealer. His dialogue delivery and the very presence of Mushu in the screen makes you sit up and enjoy. The scene where Mushu calls the Huns "a bunch of dirty ass motherf******" is really funny and probably the best scene in the movie.

There is very little scope to crib about in this movie. The only sore point is the songs which are not irritating but at the same time not heart warming too. The character of head Hun is surprisingly underutilized and should have been given more screen time. There are some scenes and dialogues which might be unsuitable for very young kids but will be gleefully accepted by the young adults and teenagers.

Though the film falls below expectations yet there is one area where it scores good brownie points and that is - design. There is a large influence of traditional Chinese art in the movie and is evident in almost every frame. The colors are used intelligently in the film and never does it feel that it is either too strong or too subtle. In fact, the horses in the film look brilliant and life-like. Good work really!

Mulan is a strange kind of film and there are reports that people actually like it though most of the reviews have nearly dissected the film into pieces. The film can be called progressive considering the gender-equality issues that it portrays through its characters.
